Paywall Finder is a Chrome extension that helps you find free, legal copies of paywalled academic articles. This page explains what data the extension handles.

What data is collected

Paywall Finder does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. It does not use analytics, tracking pixels, or user accounts.

What is sent, and where

When you click the extension icon on an article page, it detects the article's DOI (Digital Object Identifier) from the page itself. That DOI — and only the DOI — is sent to two public, third-party academic APIs to check for a free version of the article:

No other page content, browsing history, or personal information is sent anywhere. These lookups happen only when you actively click the extension icon — nothing runs in the background.

Third-party services

Use of Unpaywall and Semantic Scholar is subject to their own respective privacy policies and terms of use.
